About The Book
Do you like to read inspirational fiction? Do you believe that people who have loved and lost can find true love again, that a hurting heart can heal, and that God’s love will see you through difficult times? If so, you’ll enjoy reading Love Is Everything.
It’s the story of thirty-five year old Vanessa Dennison—a woman struggling to find joy in life and doubting her faith in God after losing her parents in a tragic accident. But after reluctantly accepting a blind date with Elliott Reeves, a handsome widower with a strong faith and young daughter, she embraces anew her relationship with God and the power of love.
Sweet and emotional, this tale of rediscovering love, faith, and hope is sure to touch your heart. It’s a must read for anyone who’s ever loved and lost, especially those still reluctant to take a chance on love.

2015 Author Questionnaire

Who designed the covers?
I used the custom cover services of CreateSpace—an Amazon company. I worked closely with the design team, selected the final cover photo and worked with them on the colors and font types.
Do you read your reviews? Do you respond to them, good or bad? Do you have any advice on how to deal with the bad?
Yes, I do read reviews.  I’m feeling particularly blessed because so far they’ve all been positive.  In February 2015, Love Is Everything won the Gold/1st Place Award for Best Short Story by The Feathered Quill Book Award Program. As you might imagine, winning an award has certainly boosted my confidence, giving me something to lean on to offset any negative reviews.  J
Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
I want my writing to inspire and encourage readers to have faith in God and to know that in one way or another, everything’s going to be alright in the end—the love of God, family and friends will see us through our challenges.
Can you share your current projects?
Many readers are asking for a sequel to Love Is Everything—they’re not ready to let go of the characters.  And honestly, I’m not either. So, I’m mapping out ideas for a sequel, and also ideas for a non-fictional inspirational book.
What books have most influenced your life most?
I wish I could point to specific books, but I can’t. I do enjoy autobiographies; stories of people who overcome challenges to realize their true potential or life’s work.
Do you ever experience writer's block?
I experienced writer’s block several times while writing Love Is Everything. And when it happened, I stopped writing until I felt a rush of news ideas.  I was under my own timeline to finish the story, not anybody else’s, so I gave myself the freedom to relax and go with the flow.

Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest?
I’m currently reading a novel called Silver Sparrow by Tayari Jones. It’s interesting and I might eventually read her other books.
While you were writing, did you ever feel as if you were one of the characters?
Yes, I connected with my main character, Vanessa, who is dealing with grief following the loss of her parents in an accident. While writing the story, I was also dealing with the loss of my mother.  So, a lot of the emotions that Vanessa experienced were quite real to me.
What are your expectations for the book?
As a first-time, independent author, I never expected to win a top book award, so you can imagine how thrilled I was (and still am) over the news.  Honestly, I just want readers to enjoy and be inspired by the story.
Do you write an outline before every book you write?
I used an outline and intend to use one with future books. I can’t imagine working without one.

Book Review: Twinkle Twinkle Christmas Star

Book Title: Twinkle, Twinkle Christmas Star

Author: Deanna Martinez-Bey

Publish Date: November 19, 2011

Genre: Christian Fiction, Romance

About the Book (from Goodreads):

Twinkle, Twinkle Christmas Star is a Christian romance story about a woman named Crissy who faced many challenges in her own life related to her faith in God, her dreams, and hopes for her future. Crissy's desire for a change in her relationship with God sparked many amazing challenges and experiences that made her much stronger throughout the story. She also met the most amazing man who would steal her heart and change her life forever. Things were not always rosey. This story has many twists and turns and many unexpected reminders from her past that seemed to test her along her journey to her new life. Is it possible for someone to have it all and lose it and then have it all over again? Twinkle, Twinkle Christmas Star is an amazing story about an incredible woman's story of faith, romance, and suspense that's filled with lots of twisted humor that will keep you smiling and amazed on how through faith anything is possible.

Why I Read this Book: I was given a physical copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.  This in no way influenced my review.

Review

Twinkle, Twinkle Christmas Star is a wonderful, uplifting Christian romance story that reminds you that through faith anything is possible.  God will lead you to where you are supposed to be in life.

Crissy is faced with many challenges in her life.  Throughout the book, she seeks to have a stronger relationship with God.  She relies on faith and this allows God to lead her to where she needs to be in life.  All she had to do was listen.

The only thing that bothered me about Twinkle, Twinkle Christmas Star is that the relationship seemed to develop really quickly and they did not have much time to get to know each other before they got married.

This is a great book to read if you are in the mood for a Christmas-themed, clean romance novel.

Novella Mash-Up Reviews: Glitches, The Little Android, and The Queen's Army by Marissa Meyer (Lunar Chronicles 0.5, 0.6, and 1.5)

I recently read Cinder by Marissa Meyer (see my review here).  It was a wonderful read (4.5/5 stars, my review).  I saw on Goodreads that there are a few free e-novellas that are associated with the series and I decided to read them.  These are my reviews for 3 out of 4 of the currently published e-novellas.  I plan to read Scarlet during next weeks read-a-thon.

Book Title: Glitches

Author: Marissa Meyer

Publish Date: December 5, 2011

Genre: Young Adult Dystopian Science Fiction

Series: The Lunar Chronicles (0.5)

Plot (from Goodreads):

Cinder, a gifted mechanic, is a cyborg. She’s a second-class citizen with a mysterious past, reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister’s illness. In Glitches, a short prequel story to Cinder, we see the results of that illness play out, and the emotional toll that takes on Cinder. Something that may, or may not, be a glitch...

Review

This is a good novella and a great addition to the series. It is good to learn more about Cinder's family.  I loved learning more about Cinder when she was young and about her early relationships with the family.  Although this talks about Cinder's childhood, I think that this book should be read after Cinder is read.

Book Title: The Little Android

Author: Marissa Meyer

Publish Date: January 27, 2014

Genre: Young Adult Dystopian Science Fiction

Series: The Lunar Chronicles (0.6)

Plot (from Goodreads):

The Little Android is a retelling of The Little Mermaid, set in the world of The Lunar Chronicles by New York Times-bestselling author Marissa Meyer.

When android Mech6.0, saves the life of a handsome hardware engineer, her body is destroyed and her mechanics discover a glitch in her programing. Androids aren’t not meant to develop unpractical reasoning or near-emotional responses…let alone fall in love.

Review

I felt like this novella added the least amount to the series.  It did show the relationship between humans and cyborgs and androids.  It was nice to have more depth to how the humans felt about the androids and the cyborgs, but it did not add to the main storyline that is in Cinder.  This is a cute and very sad story.  I enjoyed reading it, but I wish that these characters were present in the main story.  In my opinion, this novella can be read before or after reading Cinder.

Book Title: The Queen's Army

Author: Marissa Meyer

Publish Date: November 23, 2012

Genre: Young Adult Dystopian Science Fiction

Series: The Lunar Chronicles (1.5)

Plot (from Goodreads):

It is time. The boy must leave his family to serve in the Queen's army. To be chosen is an honor. To decline is impossible. The boy is modified. He is trained for several years, and learns to fight to the death. He proves to the Queen—and to himself—that he is capable of evil. He is just the kind of soldier the Queen wants: the alpha of his pack.

Review

Although this is a very short novella,  I really felt connected with the characters.  I felt like this novella really adds to the series.  I cannot wait to read more about Z and his brother.

My only complaint is that I really do not understand how the cover matches the series covers (Cinder, Scarlet, ect.).

Why I Read this Book: I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.  This in no way influenced my review.

Review

I was really torn on how to rate this book in terms of stars.  There were some really great qualities in the book and some things that really bothered me.

The writing style is incredible!  My favorite aspect of the writing style was the way that the world is developed.  The story is told by someone who does not know much about the world; therefore, the world is developed slowly and this made the book a lot more interesting than if all the information was thrown at you all at once.  If it had been given to you all in one chapter, it may have seemed quite overwhelming.

The characters where really complex and dynamic.  I really enjoyed this aspect, but some of the characters really got on my nerves.  I cannot go into details, because this is a spoiler free review.  If you want more details, visit my Goodreads review where I have all the details hidden in a spoiler.

The overall plot was very interesting.  It was filled with action and suspense and also a love triangle.  The romance aspect of this book is one thing that really bothered me.  Once again, I cannot go into details because of spoilers, but feel free to see my Goodreads review if you don't mind spoilers.

Blog Tour, Excerpt, Giveaway, and Review: Immersed by Jennifer Stewart Griffith

Immersed tour

Immersed NewImmersed by Jennifer Griffith

Lisette Pannebaker speaks five languages and has a brilliant business plan—personal language immersion. Clients can hire her to shadow them and speak all day in any language they need to learn for business or travel—whatever.
But there’s a major hitch: she’s far too pretty. Clients with less than honorable intentions sign up just have Lisette at their side. Solution? A make-under. Way under. It works like a charm. None of her male clients show her the least bit of interest.
Until… Erik.
Erik Gunnarsson is charming, kind, and smart—everything she’s ever looked for. Even though he seems to have a secret and she swore she'd never date a client, Lisette is tempted to shed her disguise—even if it means jeopardizing her career.

unnamedFDRE9K6NAuthor Jennifer Griffith

Jennifer Griffith studied French, German, Japanese, and a wee bit of Spanish in her school days. Her grandmother was Norwegian, and Jennifer grew up with lots of Scandinavian traditions floating around, including fabulous cardamom laced cookies called Krumkaker, made on a fancy waffle iron. However, she’d never dream of trying to teach someone any of those languages. And she might botch the cookies. Instead, she writes novels in English, drives her five kids a million places, and laughs with her husband, who came up with the plot for Immersed because he’s just a cool muse like that.

Review

This book was one of my favorites in this novella series.  This is about a woman who believes that she is too pretty for anyone to take her seriously so she does a make-under in which she makes herself uglier, but it seems that Erik is falling in love with her even because she is "ugly".  Although the premise of this book does not seem exciting, this story was really well written.  I read this book in two days.  This whole series has been really great.  I would recommend it to anyone who really enjoys cheesy romance stories.  These books are usually quite predictable, but they are written so well that I did not even care.

Book Review and Free Book Offer: The Exile by Eric Buffington

Book Title: The Exile

Author: Eric Buffington

Publish Date:October 11, 2013

Genre: Young Adult Fantasy

Series Name: Stones of Power (#1)

Plot (from Goodreads):

In a world where each person is born with a magic ability, the island of Denall is on the verge of an attack from a power hungry sorcerer, Mordyar, as he scours the world in search of the Stones of Power. While the stones are gathering and their power begins to be revealed, four boys leave their village on a rite of passage into adulthood and are swept into an adventure that will make men and heroes of them, if they can survive.

Why I Read this Book: I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.  This in no way influenced my review.

Review

I really loved this book.  It is full of action and amazing fantasy elements.  The touch of romance that was included was perfect!

My favorite part was the writing style.  Eric Buffington used the perfect amount of description.  I felt like I was in the story, but I was not bogged down by details.  I was so engrossed in the story that I wanted to read it in all of my free time and I easily lost track of time.

In this story, everyone is born with a special power.  Some people are born with better hearing and others have increased sight.  There are also other special powers that are introduced throughout the book.  These powers are indicated by special marks that are present at birth.  If your special power is sight, than you will have marks above your eye.  If it is hearing, than you will have marks near your ear.  The Stones of Power, rare stones that enhance a special power, are being sought out by a powerful sorcerer who wants to use them for evil.

The main characters are seeking their rightful place in the world during their rite to manhood.  The rite to manhood for the town that they are from is that you are exiled from the city for a year when they turn a certain age.  During that year, you have to survive on your own.  The characters learn many lessons during their exile and face many hardships.

The elements of survival mixed with fantasy makes this a perfect read for any reader.

Book Review: My Name is Chloe by Melody Carlson

Book Title: My Name is Chloe

Author: Melody Carlson

Publish Date: January 10, 2003

Genre: Young Adult Christian Fiction

Series Name: Diary of a Teenage Girl: Chloe (#1)

Plot (from Goodreads): Chloe, Josh Miller's younger sister, is a free spirit with funky clothes and dramatic hair. She struggles with her own identity, classmates, parents, boys, and -- her biggest question -- whether or not God is for real. But this unconventional high school freshman definitely doesn't hold back when she meets Him in a big, personal way. Refusing to change her image to fit into the "stereotypical Christian preppy mold," Chloe expresses God's love and grace through the girl band she forms, Redemption. In her development as a musician and performer, tender-hearted Chloe will learn tough lessons about following God, her heart, and her dreams.

Why I Read this Book: I found this series at my local Goodwill and they looked really interesting.

Review

My favorite part about this book is that I learned more about God while reading it.  Chloe, although a new Christian, has wonderful incites about God and His love.  For more about this, read my post on my other blog, God Speaks Through Everyday Things.

The writing style for this book was very simple and plain.  There were some really slow parts in the book and there did not seem to be a strong central plot.  The book is written as a series of diary entries in which Chloe tells about what is happening in her life.  The plot seemed to be the act of Chloe discovering what it means to be a Christian and to have a relationship with God.

I do plan on continuing with this series.  I think that it is intended that the reader reads the Diary of a Teenage Girl: Caitlin series before the Chloe series, so I think I will read the first Chloe book next and continue from there.

1 My Review

The first book in this series was not my favorite book.  There was not much of a plot and there was a lot of confusion about how the storyline was progressing.  The pace of the book was really slow and I took several breaks while reading this book.  That being said, there is a lot of potential in this book.  The characters were pretty interesting and that minor romance plot was also interesting.  I enjoyed the emotions that this book led me to have.  The sadness that was in Rylee's family because of her father being gone was really touching.  I believe that with some further edits, this book would be amazing.  I incredibly enjoyed the last 10-20% of the book when the pace of the plot really picked up.

1 My Review

Wow!  This book was really great!  The pace of the plot really picked up in this book and it was packed with adventure!  The paranormal aspects of this book were not incredibly unique, but they were certainly interesting and heightened the plot and the emotions in the book.  I cannot say much about the plot, since this is the second book in the series, but this series is well worth reading!  I cannot wait to read the next book in the series.  I will be buying it as soon as it comes out.

1 Author Bio
Rylee Everley Series by S.M. Knowles
S.M. Knowles was born in Elmira, New York where she was swept away in a whirlwind to the Land of Oz--Independence, Kansas. Her parents were relocating for working opportunities and decided that this would be the perfect place to start new roots. Little did she know that this place would contribute to the inspiration for the first book she wrote in her Rylee Everley Series.
While growing up, S.M. would travel the roads around her house while imagining she was somewhere else. Her imagination would take her everywhere, making the long hot summer days seem shorter throughout her fantasies.
At the age of twelve, she decided to write her first book. Filled mostly with dialog, she filled up one-hundred pages, front and back. After taking the book downstairs to show her mom, and persuading her to buy her more paper, she excitedly ran back to her room. As she barreled through the door, S.M. tripped over items left on her floor, and her papers came raining down in her room. Discouraged, she stood there in tears, picking up her papers and throwing them in the trash. Her work had no organization, no numbers on her pages, just a child fulfilling a joy that she would put down and not pick up again.
When she became older, she joined the military for something different. In that time, she was able to explore many places and even met her husband in Iraq. After coming home, she started her family in Arizona and went back to school, earning a Master's degree in Adult Education and Training.
