Thoughts

I really enjoyed participating in these readathons.  I had a lot of fun and made a lot of progress.  I wish that I had finished more novels.  I got kind of stuck in Everfound.  I will not pick a 500 page novel for a readathon.

Thoughts

Today was a busy day for me and I did not read as much as I would have hoped.  Hopefully, I will get to read more today and maybe finish Everfound.

Reading Completed

Today I was able to read 609 pages.  I exceeded my goal of 300 pages.  Here is what I read:

• Finished Rose (Bone # 0) by Jeff Smith (read 115 pages, total pages=136)
• Started and DNF Anya's Ghost by Vera Brosgol (read 86/221 pages)
• Continued Everfound by Neal Shusterman (read 59 pages, total 170/500)
• Finished Beautiful Creatures: The Manga by Kami Garcia (manga, 238 pages)

Thoughts

I enjoyed Rose, but not as much as I enjoyed the first book in the Bone graphic novel series.  The ending was good, but the rest was a little slow.  It was nice learning more about Rose's past.  I gave this book a 3.5/5 stars.  Review will be coming soon.

I started Anya's Ghost by Vera Brosgol.  I enjoyed the interactions that Anya had with the ghost, but there were too many sexual references and foul language.  I DNF this book.

I liked  Beautiful Creatures: The Manga, but it was not my favorite graphic novel.  I gave this book a 3.5/5 star rating.

Thoughts

I finished all of the Ted Dekker graphic novels that I had gotten from my library.  I gave Chaos and Red a 4/5 and White a 4.5/5 stars.  A series review will be coming soon.

I started the prequel to the Bone series.  It is great so far.

Thoughts

Friends with Boys was a great graphic novel!  It was about a girl who had always been home-schooled who was going to her first day of high school.  She was trying to find a way to fit in and also trying to find friends.  She had never had an friends outside of her family.  I gave this book a 4.5/5 because it had some foul language.  Full review will be coming soon.

I am continuing the audiobook of The Scorch Trial and I am enjoying it, but this is not my favorite series.  I am curious to see what will happen.  I am also continuing Everfound.  So far this is a great concluding book to the series.

Cross Game 1 was a good graphic novel that included the first three volumes in the series.  I really want to continue the series, but my library does not have the next volumes.  I gave this book a 3.5/5 star rating.  Full review will be coming soon.

I finished the first three graphic novels in the Lost Books series.  These books are based off of novels by Ted Dekker.  This books were great, although they did not follow the novels perfectly.  I hope to finish the last in this graphic novel series tomorrow (probably directly after this post goes up).  I gave each of these books a 4.5/5 star rating.

Today I was able to read 408 pages.  I exceeded my goal of 300 pages.  Here is what I read:

Thoughts

Death Note. volume 1 was a reread for me.  I originally read it last summer.  I have seen the anime series and I want to read all of the manga novels.  I reread the first volume in preparation to reading the rest of the series.  I enjoyed this volume even though this is a dark series.  I love the psychological aspects of the book.  This series keeps you on your toes. 

I continued The Scorch Trials.  I actually had to re-listen to some of it that I had listened to before because I had forgotten what had happened.  I am only 39% finished with the book, but it is good so far so I hope to continue more on this tomorrow.

I finished Once Upon a Curse by E.D. Baker which is a middle-grade fantasy novel about a 15 year old princess witch that has a curse put on her family.  She seeks for a way for the curse to be removed.  This book was really good.  This is actually the third in a series of which I have not read the first two books, but it was really easy to follow.  I gave this book a 4/5 stars and I will be writing a full review of this book soon. 

I started Everfound (Skinjacker #3).  This is a great book so far, although I have forgotten some things that happened in the second novel in this series.  This book is 500 pages so hopefully I will finish it tomorrow, but I am not sure if I will be able to read that much in one day.

Sweet Summer, Crazy for YA Books, and Library Book Readathons: Day 1 Wrap-Up (Monday, June 9)

I am participating in three readathons this week.  I have completed a good amount of reading today.  I was in the mood for some graphic novels, so this consisted of most of my reading.  I earned 8 points for the Crazy for Young Adult Books readathon.  I also completed a challenge (that I hosted) for the Sweet Summer Readathon.  You can find that challenge here.  I did not listen to any of the The Scorch Trial audiobook (for the Sweet Summer Readathon optional challenge) but I hope to listen to some of that tomorrow.  Below are the details of what I read and my thoughts.  To see how what I read applies to each of the readathons, please see my updates post here.

Reading Completed:

Today, I read a total of 411 pages.  I surpassed my goal of 300 pages.  Here is what I read: 

• Read 18 pages of the first volume of Fables by Willingham and DNF due to adult situations and some foul language 
• Started and finished Bone: Out from Boneville (graphic novel, 142 pages) 
• Started and finished Harry Potty and the Deathly Boring (graphic novel,  64 pages)
• Started and finished Black, Graphic Novel version, by Ted Dekker (graphic novel based on a book, 
• Started Once Upon a Curse by E.D. Baker (children's novel, 69 pages read)

Today's Thoughts:

I began reading Fables because I was interested in the premise: characters from the fairy tales that we all know and love reimagined and fighting crime.  Sounds awesome right?  I found that this first volume just was not for me.  I do not like reading books with adult content or even references to it.  I also do not like foul language and so this series was just not for me and I decided to DNF the series.

I next grabbed the first book in the Bone graphic novel series.  I loved this first volume.  The humor that is child friendly was wonderfully placed and made me chuckle.  The story was also very well written.  I gave this graphic novel a 5/5 stars and I will discuss it more in an upcoming review.  I do plan on continuing this series.

I then went to the library to return some books and pick up a few I had on hold.  I decided that I was really in the mood for graphic novels right now.  On an impulse, I picked up Harry Potter and the Deathly Boring, a graphic novel parody of the Harry Potter series.  I loved the Harry Potter series and I was in the mood for some humor.  This story really disappointed me.  The book's language and humor seemed to be written for a younger audience, but the foul language suggested that it was written for a YA audience.  Some of the jokes were funny, but most were dry.  I gave this book a 1.5/5 stars and I will not be writing a review on this graphic novel.

While at the library, I also saw some graphic novels that are based off of books by one of my favorite Christian Fiction authors, Ted Dekker.  I have been wanting to read them for a while, so I picked up the entire Circle graphic novel series (3 books) and the Lost Books graphic novel series (4 books).  They are each around 150 pages or less.  I hope to read most of them this week.  Today, I read the first of the Circle graphic novel series, Black.  I loved this book.  It has great illustrations and the writing sticks to the feel and the storyline of the original novels.  I gave this book a 5/5 stars and will talk about it more in my upcoming review.

Finally, I read some of a middle grade fairy tale story, Once Upon a Curse by E.D. Banks.  So far, I am enjoying this book.  I also got this by impulse at the library without realizing that it is the third in a series.  So far it has been easy to pick up what is happening in the book, so I think I will continue reading it even though I have not read the first two books in the series.

I was looking through the posts for the blogs that I follow via Bloglovin' and I just saw that there is another read-a-thon that is running next week.  Since I am already planning on doing the Crazy for Young Adult Books read-a-thon (Goodreads page that I am a part of), I have decided to do these two read-a-thons consecutively.  The Crazy for Young Adult Books read-a-thon does not have many rules, but has the point system that I talked about previously, so I do no think that it will be difficult to participate in both read-a-thons.

The Sweet Summer Read-A-Thon is hosted by The Book Tower.  The official post about the read-a-thon is here.  Below is a list of the optional challenges:

• Read a summer themed book
• Listen to an audio book
• Read an average of 200 pages a day

There are not any specific rules except to read as much as you can.  The read-a-thon starts at midnight in whatever time zone that you are in.  I hope that you will also join in with this read-a-thon.

My goals for this read-a-thon will be similar to the Crazy for Young Adult Books read-a-thon with a few additions.  Here are my goals:

• Read 2100 pages
• Read 3oo pages a day (completing the optional challenge)
• Post daily update posts during the read-a-thon
• Post a wrap-up post after the read-a-thon 
• Finish The Scorch Trials audiobook (completing the optional challenge?)
• Participate in the daily challenges for this read-a-thon
